In this episode of Great Woman Theory, our hosts discuss the early life and achievements of one of the first investigative journalists, Elizabeth Cochrane, also known under her pen name, Nellie Bly. Called a ‘stunt girl’ reporter in her time, she paved the way for all undercover, investigative, and first-class women journalists. Her report on the conditions of a women’s asylum in 1887’s New York was truly remarkable and led to reforms that helped to humanise conditions going forward. And she’s only just getting started.
